Empowering You toTake Ownership of Your Learning
Preparing students to become global citizens starts with helping them understand their voices and intellectual gifts. We offer a rigorous college-preparatory education that takes a multidisciplinary approach, encouraging students to explore the creative spaces where ideas intersect and new solutions emerge and then apply those ideas in practical settings.

Our curriculum embodies an innovative approach to learning that empowers students to engage in research, analysis, and creative design by exploring real-world problems and developing innovative, practical, and relevant solutions to those problems. You'll be empowered to design a program of study to meet your needs and strengthen your interests. At Darrow, we offer over 150 courses and opportunities to dive deep into a specialized topic or field through personalized programs, such as performing arts, visual arts, hands-to-work, and independent study, to gain hands-on experience. Whether you're interested in using scientific means to analyze "physical crime evidence" or exploring how race is represented in art, Darrow has a course for you!

A Darrow education is active, differentiated, and inclusive.
  • Active

Plus, we provide robust supports -office hours, additional scaffolding of assignments, supplementary materials, and coordination with Learning Skills coaches. At the same time, our faculty will challenge you in supportive ways to deepen or go beyond the core skills.
  • Inclusive
means that our classes are welcoming, engaging, and appropriately rigorous because we honor a wide range of backgrounds, learning styles, and cultures. We work to ensure diversity in our readings, guest speakers, and lesson materials. We offer support when challenging issues arise. We communicate clear and transparent standards or assessment criteria so you know what to expect. Plus, we all grow from our mistakes, so the opportunity for revision is a part of the learning process.

As a student and orientation leader, I have some incredible memories of my time spent at Darrow School. The small community proved to be the perfect place for me to grow, and gave me the confidence both in and out of the classroom to succeed. I had a lot of trouble learning in public schools for years, but my switch to Darrow proved to be the best change I could hope for. I became an actor, a designer, an artist, and a leader. I tapped maple trees on wednesdays, sheared sheep, and composted. I played tennis, danced, snowboarded at Jiminy Peak, and was the lead in the school musical. The only thing I regret was not spending more time and efforts in the "Living Machine"! I now live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Eight years later. Three of my teachers and dorm parents from Darrow live here as well. I guess I (We) couldn't shake the small town feeling even when school was said and done. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of the Darrow community, and the confidence and learning opportunities continue to follow me wherever I go.
