School Notes

  • We want students to love where they learn. With 11:1 classes, students get hands-on learning and teachers give real feedback instead of grades.
  • Your child will learn the same skills they would in a traditional school but have fun doing it. AHB students love learning because they feel connected to the community and participate in group discussions and meaningful projects.
  • Community is huge at AHB. No drop off lines: families can chat with teachers and friends each morning and afternoon. Parents are encouraged to get involved and receive a weekly class newsletter.
  • Our condensed schedule is key to preventing student and teacher burnout. We offer core curriculum (math, ELA, science, history) in a 9-2:30, Mon-Thurs schedule. Optional before and after-school classes and Friday Extension offer STEM, art, music and physical activity.

AHB is an amazing learning community. For us it has been the perfect mix of academic rigor (challenging each students at their appropriate level) and a warm social-emotional learning environment. The open-ended projects and hands-on learning keep my kids engaged and will serve them well in life after school. Between my two children, over the past 5 years we've experienced life at almost every level of this K-8 school and have found great teachers and learning at every step.

I love it here because my kids are so happy to come to school......even after 4 years, and because the community and the teachers are so warm and welcoming. My kids are working at or above grade levels compared to more traditional schools even though they are at school fewer hours and learning in a very different way, mostly through projects and hands on experience.
