Ortonville Montessori Center believe that the education of your child should be the cooperative responsibility of his/her home and school.
By working closely with you, we will provide the consistency needed to develop security and independence in your child.
We strive to provide a nurturing, stimulating atmosphere in which your child will grow emotionally, socially, physically and creatively, as well as academically.
Your child is in the process of creating the adult he/she will become.
Our program is devoted to encouraging the self-esteem, self-confidence and self-motivation, which are necessary for this growth.
Montessori is a method of education that cultivates the child's own desire to learn.
The children are allowed to move freely about the classroom in a non-competitive atmosphere, selecting the work that interests them.
They learn a set of "ground rules" which stress the importance of respect for others and their feelings, respect for materials, as well as courtesy and social graces.
The children must adhere to these rules if they wish to work in the classroom with their friends.
This is the "freedom within limits" aspect of the Montessori classroom.
The Montessori curriculum allows each child to grow at his/her own pace, never pushed ahead or held back from learning what he/she is ready for.
In this way, children develop an early enthusiasm for learning which influences their attitudes toward school for the rest of their lives.
