Madrasa Tul Ilm is a private school. The beginnings of MTI School of Knowledge can be traced back more than fifteen years.
It was originally a home schooling program established by four African American devoted sisters: Sr.
Muslimah Mustafa, Sr. Jamila Al-Khattab, Sr. Mumina Blackman, and Sr. Saeeda Amatullah. The school began with the involvement of only a couple families.
Soon, however, the program expanded from just two families to six.
The school has come a long way since the beginning.
Little by little the school has added on to what it already had.
The Masjid first started out with a small building downtown.
The school that they had was a small home school consisting of about five students.
Even with that it was still full time. After much work, Dr.
Haroon Qazi bought and donated area and began construction on a Masjid.
The idea was to have a full time school in the basement area and the prayer area on the upper level.
