I attended St. Benedict the Moor from kindergarten through 8th grade. I was one of the first students to attend St. Benedict when it opened in 1962. I had the best education of my entire life at St. Benedict. The Sisters of Providence, the only Black Order of Nuns, were responsible for our religious and academic education. As well as the Jesuit Order of Priests. I graduated in 1971 from St. Benedict. We had to apply for acceptance into a Catholic high school. I was accepted at Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA) and graduated in 1975. Unfortunately, now St. Benedict is closed. I have such good memories and life lessons.

I attended St Benedict from grades 1-3 in the early 70s. Sister Dorothy Yancy was my first teacher and many of the values and habits I hold today came from her. I Learned to excel academically and to love the Lord simultaneously through the close-knit family that was our school. Our teachers encouraged us to achieve excellence. I am glad I had my start at St. Benedict the Moor.
