The Knox School of Santa Barbara is a small independent school for gifted and advanced learners in Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade. The Knox School of Santa Barbara is a small independent school
for gifted and advanced learners in Junior Kindergarten through 8th
grade. We support the whole child socially, emotionally,
intellectually, and academically through a personalized program
designed specifically for how gifted students think, learn, and
grow.
Our approach meets each student where they are. Instruction is
shaped around individual readiness, strengths, and areas for growth
rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Students are organized
in small, multi-age cohorts spanning Junior
Kindergarten/Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle School. This
structure fosters age-peer connection alongside flexible academic
grouping, allowing for cross-age collaboration and appropriately
challenging instruction. Our curriculum emphasizes inquiry,
creativity, problem-solving, abstract reasoning, and meaningful
interdisciplinary learning.
In Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten, learning is
play-basedwhile still nurturing gifted children who are ready
for academic challenge. As students progress, they develop strong
skills in writing, research, communication, and critical thinking
through projects, real-world problem-solving, field trips, and
hands-on STEAM experiences.
At Knox, academic challenge is only part of the story. We place
