- - 05/20/2026[NEW YORK, N.Y. - May 20, 2026] Winston Preparatory School announced the publication of a new study by the school's Innovation Lab research team in the International Journal for Research ...morein Learning Disabilities.
The article, titled "What Support Truly Means to Students With Learning Disabilities: Centering Student Voices in Developing the Winston Support Questionnaire," introduces the Winston Support Questionnaire (WSQ), designed to assess the extent to which students with learning disabilities perceive support from their teachers and families. In their research, the team proved that the WSQ is a reliable and valid tool for studying how supportive relationships in school and at home contribute to outcomes for students with learning disabilities.
The WSQ was developed based on input from students with learning disabilities, using their authentic voices rather than relying on adult or neurotypical perspectives. This was a key component of the study, as it allowed students to directly identify what their needs are in order to feel supported by teachers and their families. hide

School Notes
- School Motto: Education for the Individual
- School Mascot: Bulldog
Education for the Individual is at the heart of the Winston Preparatory School model. Your child's program is designed based on our understanding of their individual learning profile, allowing for precisely designed instruction tailored to their strengths and needs.
From coast to coast, Winston Preparatory School is creating places, physically and virtually, where neurodivergent learners feel understood and supported. This unique approach is available in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, and online so no matter where you are, there's a Winston Prep option to fit your child's journey.
Unlike other learning models and programs, Winston Prep groups students by learning profile and provides daily 1:1 instruction. Surrounded by the right group, each child becomes part of a team. Classes are intentionally small, allowing teachers to work closely with students, adapt instruction in real time, and foster meaningful connections.
"I rarely leave the parent-teacher conference at Winston without tears in my eyes. I am amazed at how well these people know my child, how concerned they are about my child, and how much thought and effort these people have given."
Peter B., Winston Prep Parent
This individualization combined with social-emotional learning and essential skill development leads to clear improvements in academic achievement, resilience, and connections with others. While this approach may feel new, Winston Prep's methods are rooted in years of evidence-based research and proven practice.
Why Winston Works:
- Ongoing Assessment: It is the key to understanding your child's evolving strengths and needs so that we can most effectively help them through precise and individualized program design. It allows educators to measure skills, track progress, refine goals, realize potential, and improve the ability to learn.
- Daily 1:1 Instruction: Winston's Focus program provides daily 45-minute, 1:1 remedial instruction for your child, targeting individual goals in the areas of greatest need. From time management and executive function skill-building to self-advocacy and navigating social communication, students build the independence and confidence needed for life and learning.
- Development of Skills that Matter: All experiences, including what seem to be distinctly academic-related learning experiences, are directly tied to social emotional skills. Whether a student is approaching a math problem and needs to remain resilient, self-regulate their emotions and attention to remain goal-oriented or having a conversation with a group of friends who are struggling with something, requiring social communication and social responsibility skills in order to remain empathetic, listen actively, and contribute to the conversation in an appropriate and supportive way, there is always a social emotional piece of their experience. All experiences, including what seem to be distinctly academic-related learning experiences, are directly tied to social emotional skills.
Winston Prep accepts students on a rolling basis, so your child can start thriving without delay. Start the admissions journey by visiting www.winstonprep.edu.
