School Notes

Media-Providence Friends School is committed to creating a community of life-long learners, who grow in nurturing classrooms which offer academic challenge and provide opportunities for character development.

In a setting that both challenges and supports, we cultivate students` intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, creative and physical aspects. A strong foundation in reading, writing, and math enables them to progress through the rest of the rich curriculum (science, the arts, Spanish and social studies). Whenever possible, subjects are integrated so that children understand that knowledge is connected and applicable across disciplines. And, because children learn at different rates and in diverse ways, we support them in their learning at individual levels, within the context of our program, from mastery of basic skills to higher order thinking.

We emphasize thein every individual and are deeply concerned with nurturing the light and potential that is rooted within each child. Students are expected to develop a sense of responsibility and respect for all communities, and.

This philosophy is manifested in many ways:
  • Teachers encourage hands-on learning and modeling, teach through example, plan for collaborative work, seek to integrate knowledge by connecting topics and subjects, and offer openings for creativity and divergent thinking.
  • Independent thinking, resilience, and self-reliance are intentionally cultivated in a caring environment where students exercise choice, build confidence, discover themselves through self reflection, take risks in learning, sustain their curiosities and pursue interests.
  • Teaching in our school reflects a respect for a variety of learning styles, and the differentiation of lessons is a common practice.
  • We strive to stimulate creative inquiry and critical judgment, while fostering balance between individual learning and achievement and the growth and respect that comes through interaction with others.
  • In addition to preparing students for future success, it is our hope that they will leave our school with a commitment to improving the lives of others and the world at large.
